Researchers at Zhejiang University and the University of Leeds introduced a method to search for recurring patterns in chaotic many-body quantum systems and used it to uncover and stabilize recurrent activity on a 24-qubit superconducting processor. The work, published in Nature Physics, shows regular trajectories coexisting with chaos, an effect long known in classical systems but not previously observed in quantum many-body systems.
A clean example of today's processors doing new physics, and relevant to controlling thermalization (quantum many-body scars) in simulation workloads.
