Infleqtion, Honeywell Aerospace, and UC Santa Barbara Develop Chip-Scale Silicon Nitride Optical Cavity for Handheld Quantum Hardware

A sourced note from the 7 October 2026 morning scan. The figure of record is the original report, not this page.

The partners built a chip-scale silicon nitride optical cavity prototype to miniaturize the lasers and optical stabilization systems that atom-based quantum devices rely on. They say it supports volume manufacturing and field-deployable systems such as atomic timing devices and compact quantum computers.

Why it matters

Laser and optics bulk is a main barrier to portable neutral-atom clocks, sensors and computers.
