India takes step towards quantum-secure communication with 5.56-km free-space QKD link
A sourced note from the 4 October 2026 morning scan. The figure of record is the original report, not this page.
MeitY reported a field trial by QNu Labs with BISAG-N and IIT Gandhinagar that established a free-space quantum key distribution link between BISAG-N and IIT Gandhinagar. The trial held QBER below 5% and generated keys at 230–260 bits/s, then fed them into BISAG-N’s Vedic Kavach post-quantum crypto platform for end-to-end test-message encryption.
Why it matters
Free-space QKD is a building block for longer-haul and eventual satellite quantum-secure links; pairing hardware QKD with a government PQC stack is a concrete national-infrastructure signal.
