US Department of Energy Releases National Quantum Roadmap Establishing 2028 Fault-Tolerance Milestones
A sourced note from the 4 October 2026 morning scan. The figure of record is the original report, not this page.
The DOE Office of Science Advisory Committee Quantum Subcommittee published “Path to an Integrated Quantum Future,” chaired by Fermilab’s Anna Grassellino. It pushes scientific utility over raw qubit counts and maps Phase I Grand Challenges (2026–2028) toward error-corrected scientific usefulness, a DOE Quantum Computing User Facility, and later hybrid Quantum–HPC–AI integration.
Why it matters
Sets federal scoring and co-design expectations that will shape lab–industry roadmaps and funding language through 2028.
