Cisco Introduces Software to Coordinate Larger Quantum Networks

A sourced note from the 7 October 2026 morning scan. The figure of record is the original report, not this page.

Research prototypes — not commercial products

Cisco introduced two research prototypes: a Quantum Network Controller that manages hardware, schedules connections and monitors link quality, and an updated Network-Aware Quantum Compiler that splits workloads across processors and requests the network resources they need. Cisco says the software coordinated multi-vendor equipment for entanglement distribution and swapping over 17.6 km (about 11 miles) of commercial fiber in New York City, with better than 99% polarization fidelity at room temperature.

Why it matters

A major networking vendor building the control layer for distributed quantum computing; note that Cisco itself calls these research prototypes, not commercial products.
