Photonic
Organisations tagged photonic, including boson-sampling and optical approaches. Those are not gate-model peers of one another. 16 records use this tag. A company can carry more than one.
Sheffield, United Kingdom
Photonic hardware and single-photon sources. Artemis system at the NQCC in 2025.
Milan, Italy
Glass-photonic quantum processors. One of Italy’s domestic hardware startups; the brief describes national commercial depth as thinner than France, Germany, or the UK.
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Quantum networking and interconnects. $60 million Series A in December 2025. The Europe brief notes it is a UK company, not Italian.
Tokyo, Japan
Company-asserted 100-qubit commercial target by Mar 2026 (verify delivery); 1M-qubit by 2030 aspirational
Optical quantum computing, with Series A funding and government support, and a deep NTT partnership from August 2026. A 100-qubit commercial system by March 2026 was a company target to verify. Larger figures — 10,000 qubits around 2027 and one million by 2030 — are company-asserted and described as highly aspirational.
London, United Kingdom
Company-asserted ~11 on-prem systems claimed
Room-temperature photonic processors using telecom components. PT-series. NQCC install in June 2025. Deployments cited in Japan (Toyota Tsusho), Montana, and Poznań. About 11 on-prem systems claimed.
Palo Alto, CA; Moreton Bay, Queensland, United States
Roadmap — not confirmed operational Million-physical-qubit class ambition; cryoplant delivery targeted 2H 2027
Silicon-photonic bet on utility-scale fault tolerance, with GlobalFoundries in the manufacturing path. A raise of about $1 billion in September 2025 at a reported ~$7 billion valuation. US CHIPS engagement reported. In Australia, Commonwealth and Queensland support of about A$470 million each was announced in April 2024; groundbreaking at Moreton Bay Central was 18 June 2026. The brief says to treat the operational date as late-decade, not the earlier end-2027 marketing.
Stuttgart, Germany
Photonic processors (NPUs) and sensors. NPU 2 customer shipments were reported in the first half of 2026.
Beijing, China
Photonic and optical Ising machines aimed at dedicated applications, not a universal gate-model peer of Origin. Large 2025–26 funding rounds, including pre-IPO reports in July 2026, are flagged to verify before citing amounts.
Massy / Paris region, France
Reported Lucy: 12 data qubits
Photonic quantum computing. Supplies Lucy, the EuroHPC system at CEA/GENCI (12 data qubits). An OVHcloud sovereign-cloud path was reported for mid-2026.
United States (photonic / TFLN; confirm HQ on filings), United States
Smaller photonic pure-play focused on thin-film lithium niobate. The North America brief says to treat claims carefully.
Tel Aviv area, Israel
Photonic quantum computing via atom–photon gates. A calibration-free single-atom entangled photon source demonstration with DDR&D was reported.
Enschede, Netherlands
Room-temperature photonic processors in the Twente ecosystem. The Europe brief places QuiX in the Netherlands, not Germany.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Company-asserted Photon flux >500 million/s into fibre (Sep 2026 claim)
Deterministic single-photon sources and photonic chips. A €21.5 million raise. Sole Danish pick for the EU Quantum Grand Challenge and a pillar lead in the €50 million P4Q photonic pilot line. September 2026 claims of record photon flux (more than 500 million photons per second into fibre).
Shanghai, China
Described as the first dedicated Chinese photonic quantum-computing company, using lithium niobate, with a pilot production line. A January 2026 Series B valuation toward about CNY 7 billion was reported.
Hefei, China
Reported Zuchongzhi ~105–107 superconducting qubits (2025 research). Jiuzhang 4.0 is boson sampling, not a gate-model QPU
Scientific anchor of the Hefei cluster and the lineage behind spinouts Origin Quantum, QuantumCTek, and CIQTEK. Jiuzhang 4.0 (Nature, May 2026) is a Gaussian boson sampling result — 1,024 squeezed inputs, 8,176 modes, up to 3,050 photon detections were lab-asserted — and advantage claims are contested. Zuchongzhi 3.0/3.2 (2025) is a ~105–107 qubit superconducting research system; a surface-code distance-7 logical qubit below threshold was reported in December 2025. Peer-reviewed research, not a product.
Toronto, ON, Canada
Photonic computing and the PennyLane framework. CQCP recipient (up to CAD $23 million) and a federal CAD $195 million toward Project OPTIMISM manufacturing, inside a larger package of up to CAD $390 million announced March 2026. DARPA QBI Stage B. About $302 million gross from the SPAC.
